Why Pasties Are the Perfect Quick Winter Meal - How to Freeze & Reheat

When winter rolls in, there’s nothing better than having a proper, comforting meal ready to go — especially on those cold days when the thought of cooking from scratch feels like far too much effort.

That’s where Cornish pasties really come into their own.

Whether you’re stocking up for busy weekdays, planning ahead for post-Christmas downtime, or simply want a freezer full of good food, pasties are one of the best winter meals you can freeze and reheat. Here’s how to do it properly.

Can You Freeze Pasties?

Yes — pasties freeze brilliantly.

Our Cornish pasties are baked fresh, shipped chilled, and are perfectly suitable for freezing at home. Freezing them locks in flavour and means you’ve always got a warm, filling meal ready whenever you need it.

How to Freeze Pasties Properly

  • Make sure your pasties are completely cool
  • Leave them in their original packaging or wrap tightly in foil or a freezer bag
  • Label with the date
  • Store in the freezer for up to 3 months

Top tip: freeze them individually so you can take out exactly what you need.

How to Reheat Pasties (The Best Way)

For the best results, we recommend reheating pasties in the oven — this keeps the pastry crisp and the filling piping hot.

Oven Reheating Guide

From frozen:

  • Fan oven: 180°C for 35–40 minutes
  • Conventional oven (no fan): 200°C for 40–45 minutes
  • Gas oven: Gas Mark 6 for 40–45 minutes

From chilled:

  • Fan oven: 180°C for 20–25 minutes
  • Conventional oven: 200°C for 25–30 minutes
  • Gas oven: Gas Mark 6 for 25–30 minutes

Remove all packaging, place the pasty on a baking tray, and ensure it’s piping hot all the way through before serving.

Can You Reheat a Pasty in the Microwave?

You can — especially if you’re short on time — but the pastry will be softer.
For best results, microwave until hot, then finish in the oven for 5–10 minutes to crisp up the pastry.
